Last evening, while on an evening walk, we started talking about how easy it is to put things off.
“I’ll start tomorrow,” “I’ll do it when I have more time,” “Maybe next week…” — that kind of thing.
It’s funny how often we say that, even for things we actually want to do. Sometimes it’s a hobby we’ve been meaning to restart, or a goal sitting quietly on our to-do list for months. We both laughed when we realized how often we make these little excuses without even noticing.
The street was quiet, just a few scooters passing by, and that usual evening breeze that somehow makes every chat deeper than it needs to be. Somewhere in that calm, I remembered a story I’d once written — about a person named Alex who believed there’s really no excuse for not trying.
It wasn’t about being perfect or successful; it was about showing up, even when it’s not easy. That line stayed with me, because honestly, some days even getting started feels like the hardest part.
We spoke about how life sometimes pushes us to slow down — and that’s okay too. It reminded me of “Breaks Are Fine, Just Restart…”, where I wrote about how taking pauses doesn’t mean you’ve failed. In fact, those pauses often help you find your rhythm again.
And maybe that’s the trick — it’s not about rushing ahead, but about not giving up on yourself completely. Trying again, even in small ways, is still progress.
I think we all have our “Alex moments.” Days when we question whether what we’re doing even matters, or whether it’s too late to start over. But maybe the whole point is that trying — however imperfectly — does matter. Because that’s what keeps the spark alive.
By the time we reached home, the sky had already turned pinkish-orange. We felt lighter, not because we’d solved anything big, but because that small reminder — to keep trying — somehow made everything feel possible again. And of course, our walk ended with food (as always!). We had dinner made from this recipe, and between bites we laughed about how these little conversations always sneak their way into our blog. Maybe that’s what makes them special — just simple moments that make us think a little deeper.
